The Pacemaker

The Pacemaker is a portable MP3 player designed for DJs. Featuring a 120GB hard drive 1with support for MP3/AAC/WMA/OGG/WAV formats and a quoted playback time of 18 hours. So far so fine – it then adds in cross faders, pitch bend, loop controls, line out and headphone sockets.

Good for the DJ who likes to travel very light indeed, but surely even less impressive to watch than someone DJing from a laptop. Though that's partly sour grapes cause I still can't work out Ableton Live.

And it doesn't play vinyl of course (see The Vinyl Comeback).

The Genius of Photography

The Genius of Photography is a six part series starting tonight on BBC4, tracking 170 years of photography.

” In the course of our 170 year relationship, photography has delighted
us, served us, moved us, outraged us and occasionally disappointed us.
But mainly, it has intrigued us by showing the secret strangeness that
lies beneath the world of appearances. And that is photography's true

Pomade & Bees

Today is the 2nd time in a month I've been stung by a bee walking to work. Both times I never saw the culprit and both times the thing landed in my hair, (wearing headphones I never heard it coming), and then stung me as I tried to move it. The first time was on my the hand and today on the top of the head -which wakes you up quicker than a cappuccino.

Anyway, I've worked out a pattern. Both times I was using Sweet Georgie Browns hair pomade, which, if you've ever encountered it, smells quite sweet. There should be a warning on the tin. I'm a a walking target…

Apparently these stings can be dangerous. So this may be my last blog entry ever….
